Speaking and Listening

Speaking and Listening

'Writing floats on a sea of talk'.  James Britton We recognise the importance of spoken language in pupils’ development across the whole curriculum - spoken language also underpins the development of reading and writing. Children are encouraged to develop effective oracy skills to support their life long learning and to enable them to be effective communicators.

Speaking and listening skills are taught in English, across the curriculum and during extra-curricular activities.

We recognise the need for all pupils to speak, read and write Standard English fluently and accurately, while acknowledging that a pupil's own dialect, or other language is of prime importance.

Our Values

We are guided and strengthened by our distinctively Christian values of Hope, Courage, Love, Thankfulness, Trust and Forgiveness. These values were chosen by our school community by reflecting deeply on the meaning of 6 key stories from the Bible. These values are nurtured and lived by all in our school community as we continue to learn and grow together.
