Screen Time Guidance
📱 Screen Time Guidance for Families
At Moseley Church of England Primary School, we recognise that technology is a normal and valuable part of children’s lives. Used well, it can support learning, creativity and connection. However, it is important that screen time is balanced with sleep, physical activity, social interaction and time away from devices.
Government guidance does not set strict time limits, but instead encourages families to focus on healthy routines and age-appropriate use. We recommend that parents consider the following:
- Prioritise sleep – avoid screens before bedtime and keep devices out of bedrooms where possible
- Balance is key – ensure children have plenty of time for outdoor play, reading and family interaction
- Be involved – know what your child is accessing and talk regularly about their online experiences
- Set clear boundaries – agree screen-free times (e.g. during meals or before school)
- Model healthy habits – children learn from the adults around them
As a Church school, our vision reminds us that “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). We encourage children to use their time and the opportunities around them wisely, making choices that help them to flourish and to be a positive light to others. Developing healthy habits around screen use is part of supporting children’s wellbeing, relationships and sense of self.
We value working in partnership with families to help children develop positive, responsible and balanced relationships with technology.

Smartphones were never designed with kids in mind - but they've reshaped childhood faster than any technology in history. Many families wish there was another way, but delaying smartphones when all your children's friends have them, can feel impossible. That's why Smartphone Free Childhood exists. We help families delay smartphones and social media together - building community, sharing support, and changing culture.
