Welcome from the chair
Dear Parents / Carers,
You may have noticed in Mrs Sumner's Head Teacher newsletter sent at the end of 2017, that further to a Full Governing Body Meeting held late December, I have been elected as Chair of the Governing Body along with Jamie Sheehan as Vice Chair. These posts will remain until at least the end of this academic year. I’d like to thank Adam Thompson for his role as Chair which he held from September 2015.
I have been a member of the Governing Body for 6 years now holding the position of Chair of the Finance and Premises Committee, the Governor responsible for Health and Safety, and I have overseen various year groups and subject areas. I have been a parent of two children in the school since 1999, one of my sons is still in year 6. I have also been actively involved in many PTA events over the years.
The Governing Body meets three times each academic year, and Governors are also allocated to committees, each meeting three times a year, to discuss finance, premises, curriculum, standards, pupil and personnel matters in accordance with annually reviewed Terms of Reference. Each Governor attends appropriate training courses and are also linked with classes and subject coordinators, aiming to come into school at least once per term to work alongside children and staff.
One of my objectives for this academic year is to make the work of the Governing Body more transparent and to ensure that the members of the Governing Body are known to the parents / carers and the children. Details about each Governor can be seen on the school web site where there are photographs and personal profiles. Names and photographs of the Governors are also displayed in the school reception area.
I would like to assure you that the members of the Governing Body are fully committed to their roles, and have a collective desire to ensure that the Christian Ethos of the school is maintained and that Moseley C of E continues to go from strength to strength. The Governing Body at Moseley C of E operates at a very high level, providing the right balance of challenge and support.
Please can I remind you that the school has to make decisions on a daily basis, often in a high pressure environment. Not all of these decisions will suit everyone, but more often than not, a balanced view is taken on decision making so that as many people as possible will be happy with the outcome.
I look forward to this role on the Governing Body and I will undertake it with commitment and to the best of my ability.
If you need to communicate with me, please can you advise the school office who will pass any messages on. I will try and deal with any matters quickly and effectively.
